Aikido is a somatic exercise, i.e., you learn with your body. Of course, paying attention to the
instructor’s explanations, imitating his/her movements, and being aware of your partner are the
starting points. Ultimately, however, you have to feel the process with your whole being. I
suggest that once a week you set aside a few minutes to mentally review your training on the mat but also your application of Aiki principles in the rest of your life. Note where you applied the
concepts successfully and where you failed. If done sincerely, over time the successes will
greatly outweigh the failures.
