It is said that Budo masters are not judged by the number of students that they have but by the number of masters that they produce. Ueshiba Morihei, O-Sensei, certainly produced many. Outstanding researcher Stanley Pranin interviewed a number of early students of O-Sensei who recalled their experiences with him. Their accounts offer vivid recollections of training at a time when O-Sensei’s Budo was not yet called Aikido. Japan was still under the influence of State Shinto and behaving aggressively in Taiwan, Korea, and China. Their stories make for fascinating reading for anyone interested in the history of Aikido. The book is entitled AIKIDO MASTERS: PREWAR STUDENTS OF MORIHEI UESHIBA.
